Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer visited Mavişehir Flamingo Nature Park, which is nearing completion within the scope of the Living Parks project, which is among the election promises.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which completed the Mavişehir Coastal Rehabilitation Project, which ended floods in Mavişehir, continues the production works of Flamingo Nature Park, designed as a Living Park in this area, at full speed.
Flamingo Nature Park, created in the 1,3-kilometer coastal area starting from the Bostanlı Fisherman's Shelter and including the real Blue Island region to the north, will create new living spaces for the bird population in the region, allowing the citizens to integrate with nature and closely observe bird types.

A cost of over 100 million TL
Leader Tunç Soyer visited the park, which is planned to be put into service in the first quarter of 2024.
“We are building a very special park in Mavişehir at a cost of over 100 million TL. This park is also a point that traces the Gediz delta and opens to the city. It is a park literally surrounded by nature. And by following the trace left by the Gediz Delta in this city, it turns it into a more understandable living space that everyone can see and understand. That's the main idea. For example, they serve as roosting spots for many bird species, especially seagulls and cormorants seen by the sea. Young fish breed under them. It means that life in the sea somehow meets the land and the traces of life in the Gediz Delta are transferred here as well. It's a very big project. It is very big in every sense, but most importantly, we will bring together the people of Izmir with a brand new park concept. And this; An understanding we call a living park. "I hope the people of Izmir will enjoy this and discover the beauty of Izmir on the wooden sea terraces we have built," he said.

About Flamingo Nature Park Project
Mavişehir, where there is heavy urbanization today, forms a part of the Gediz Delta, which had a wetland ecosystem many years ago. However, with the growth of the city, it largely lost this feature. The project aims to be developed in this direction and to recreate this wetland, which has been erased from the city's memory, within the urban fabric. Flamingo Nature Park was designed as a demonstration area of the idea of opening the Gediz Delta to visitor experience in conservation-use stability.
Park; It takes as reference natural and cultural inputs specific to the place, such as saline wetlands, fisheries, animal husbandry and bird population; It includes recreational activities such as a visitor center, nature puzzles, marine nature classroom, saline wetland plains and bird observation towers.
In addition to being home to many species, the Southern Gediz Delta is known as a region where flamingos live and breed very heavily. For this reason, the project area, which is where the Gediz Delta, which provides habitat for approximately 10 percent of the world's flamingo population, begins, was named Flamingo Nature Park. The texture that was tried to be created in the park was designed with reference to the ancient construction routes in the Homa Dalyan in the delta. Delicate-looking yet strong structures that are compatible with the existing texture and easy to build will be produced in similar quality based on these systems.

Living Parks are expanding across the city
In line with the aim of "Living Parks", which integrates green areas on the city periphery with the city center, Olivelo Living Park in Güzelbahçe Yelki, Mavişehir Fishing Shelter Living Park in Karşıyaka, Orta Gediz Living Park, Güney Gediz Living Park, Fırat Living Park in Buca met with the people of Izmir.
Work in Meriç Living Park in Bornova has come to an end, and work continues in Kovankayası Living Park in Doğançay and Flamingo Nature Park in Mavişehir.
