Marquez could not compete with the Honda RC2023V in the 213 season and could only reach the podium once. Marquez, an eight-time world champion, is currently behind even his former teammate Dani Pedrosa, who has raced two races into the standings.
Marquez's situation at Honda has led to various rumors about his future. Some sources claimed that Marquez would switch to Gresini Ducati in 2024. However, Marquez rejected these claims and stated that his contract with Honda continued until 2024.
Marquez was also not satisfied with the first test of the 2024 Honda prototype in Misano. Marquez said the bike still needed development and did not reach the performance level he wanted.
Marquez said at the Estrella Galicia event in Spain that he was not considering taking a break from MotoGP or competing elsewhere.
"Staying at home would be plan D, but I'm not thinking about it," Marquez said.

Marquez admitted that he “made a mistake” by pushing as if he was challenging for the title in the first part of the season, which led to “many accidents and injuries”.
"As long as I'm seventh or eighth, it's fine, but when I'm 15th, like in Montmelo, it becomes more complicated," Marquez said.
