Japanese producers have hit rock bottom

Japanese manufacturers face tough in 2023 MotoGP season zamhaving moments. Although Honda had a surprise win with Alex Rins in America, Yamaha was able to reach two podiums. These manufacturers were expected to fight for the championship, but Dorna Sports sporting director Carlos Ezpeleta, who wanted to put a stop to the situation, suggested concessions to both Japanese manufacturers.

However, since the concessions are only given to manufacturers who "haven't been on the podium for a season", neither Honda nor Yamaha are in a position to receive the concession. Under these circumstances, Dorna needs a unanimous vote at the producers' association meeting to be able to grant concessions to the two producers, but it is known that KTM is not happy with the situation.

KTM motorsport boss Pit Beirer said: "I have a very clear and firm view of the concessions, we don't want to change that view." said. “The regulations are clear, if you are new to the sport, you have some privileges. However, neither Honda nor Yamaha were new to the sport. More than your recent achievements zamThe moment has not passed.”

“Honda won races this year, KTM didn't. Their bikes aren't that bad. Yamaha has been on the podium twice, winning the title in 2021.”

Regardless, it's not unlikely that Dorna will unanimously decide on concessions.

New British GP format

A new format change proposed for the British GP before the summer break was initially blocked by Ducati, who wanted the change to come into effect in 2024. However, during the summer break, an agreement was reached with Ducati, and the change was put into use.

The new format consists of two races. The drivers who take the top 10 places after the first race start from the pole position in the second race. The driver with the best time in the second race wins the overall classification.

The new format is expected to generate more excitement and competition. Drivers are expected to compete more aggressively in the first race and more tension in the second race.
