Karsan delivered the driverless and 250 percent electric autonomous e-ATAK model to the R&D and Innovation Center of Istanbul Technical University (ITU), celebrating its 100th anniversary with the vision of transforming the future.

Continuing to take great steps towards becoming a global brand, Karsan continues to increase its weight on the roads of the world with the high-tech vehicles it has developed. Renewing Europe's transportation infrastructure with electric vehicles, Karsan continues its activities in Turkey without interruption. In this context, Karsan delivered the driverless and 250 percent electric autonomous e-ATAK model to the R&D and Innovation Center of Istanbul Technical University (ITU), celebrating its 100th anniversary with the vision of transforming the future. Karsan Otonom e-ATAK delivered to ITU, which is on the rise in green campus rankings by making harmony with nature a priority, will play a role in bringing a sustainability understanding to engineer candidates.

The work of Turkish engineers

Autonomous e-ATAK, the first driverless bus carrying 2021 percent electric passengers in Europe and America, which was first tested and introduced to the world by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the beginning of 100, started to serve the Presidential Complex for the first time in Turkey. Autonomous e-ATAK delivered to ITU became the second driverless bus to be used in Turkey. Autonomous e-ATAK, which has Level 4 autonomous features developed by Turkish engineers and made ready for mass production, will be used in project development studies within the scope of R&D activities of ITU, which carries university-industry cooperation forward with its collaborations.

Serving in Norway

Saying that they paved the way for new projects for the Turkish engineers of the future with this cooperation, Karsan Deputy General Manager of Domestic Sales and Foreign Relations Muzaffer Arpacıoğlu said, “With Autonomous e-ATAK, our young engineer candidates; It is aimed to develop new projects with high commercial potential worldwide in the field of driverless vehicle technologies. Expressing that Autonomous e-ATAK can drive autonomously at 50 km/h in all weather conditions, day or night, Muzaffer Arpacıoğlu continued: “Our Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK model was ticketed on an ordinary route in Stavanger, Norway last year. started to serve by carrying passengers. We also sent our vehicle to Michigan State University (MSU), one of the leading universities in the USA. With this step within the scope of the university's goal of creating a smart mobility ecosystem, Autonomous e-Atak was also used for a year to transport MSU faculty, university staff, students and visitors after extensive testing and federal approval. Now we are launching the first autonomous project of our country with ITU, one of Turkey's most respected educational and scientific institutions. Autonomous e-ATAK, which will be evaluated within the scope of ITU's R&D activities, is a source of pride for both us and our country.

Making an assessment on the subject, ITU Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu said, “We, as ITU, attach great importance to electric vehicle technology, which has shown great interest in the world in 2023, which we have declared as the year of sustainability. With this protocol we signed with Karsan, we aim to bring in our country and humanity young engineers who redefine engineering and transform the future thanks to their research-based active learning skills.”

Working in close cooperation with Karsan's R&D team in the development of autonomous e-ATAK, ADASTEC's CEO, Dr. Ali Ufuk Peker stated the following regarding the Autonomous e-ATAK delivery to Istanbul Technical University:

“This delivery is an indication of the strong partnership between ADASTEC and Karsan. We are very happy to present Autonomous e-ATAK to ITU. This cooperation offers young engineer candidates a great opportunity to develop new projects in the field of autonomous vehicle technologies. Autonomous e-ATAK once again proves ADASTEC's technology leadership and expertise in autonomous driving solutions. We are proud to contribute to the R&D activities of ITU and we think this delivery is a great success for our country.”
