New Volkswagen T7 Being Tested At The California Nürburgring

Usually, when we share spy photos of an all-black prototype from Volkswagen Group at the Nürburgring, we usually see a model with a Porsche emblem and plenty of horsepower. But this time it's different. It's okay to drive a little fast in a VW Multivan T7 that you trust to drive and handle, but be aware that you can damage any camping gear carried in the back!

We don't see any traces of camouflage on the Multivan, as it's not needed as the current model was introduced in June 2022 for the 2021 model year. What we see is a thick roof overhang above and a little more body behind the rear wheels. Our spies believe this new T7 California has a pop-up (retractable) roof and a double awning system for a classic California camping experience.

This isn't the first time we've heard of a new California model. In March 2023, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles CEO Carsten Intra made an unexpected announcement that such a vehicle would be introduced later in the year. Earlier in August we received two different images showing pictures of the commercial model and an image of the digital dashboard for in-car systems.

And just a few days ago, Intra confirmed on LinkedIn that a California debut will be held at the 2023 Caravan Show in Düsseldorf. This fair is considered the largest in the world and opens to the public on August 25. So yes, the presentation of the tested model will take place very soon.

It is said that the new California will be even more luxurious and comfortable compared to the current model. It is also claimed to offer more camping equipment and a larger living space. The price of the new California is expected to be slightly higher than the current model.
