Will Volvo now only sell SUVs?

Volvo has stopped sales of sedans and estates in the UK market. The company is evolving and consolidating its product range with the aim of focusing entirely on electric vehicles and accelerating the technological transition in the coming period.

The new UK sales strategy means that the Volvo S60, V60 and V90 models are no longer listed in the online configuration tab and are withdrawn from sale. However, customers can already order preconfigured models from dealer stocks.

Volvo said it made this decision because of the waning interest in low-demand sedans and estates. On the other hand, as the demand for the current SUV product range is increasing rapidly, there is also a great interest for the all-electric EX30 and EX90 models.

UK sales data confirms that SUVs are Volvo's most popular vehicles. One of Volvo's discontinued sedans and estates, the S90 became the most popular model, selling 23.000 units in the six-month period. The S60 sold 18.000 units and the V60 just over 16.000 units. However, the V90 underperformed on demand, with sales of just 7.100 units.

This decision by Volvo is an indication of the growing popularity of the SUV market. SUVs are preferred by more customers because they offer more interior space and have a higher driving position than sedans and estates. With this decision, Volvo aims to strengthen its leading position in the SUV market and accelerate its transition to fully electric vehicles in the coming period.
