Volkswagen breathes new life into camping with the new California

Volkswagen has announced the new California model introduced at the 2023 Düsseldorf Caravan Salon. Technically a concept, the T7 California has significant changes compared to the current model.

The biggest news is the second sliding door added to the left side of the vehicle. In previous versions, the kitchen was fixed and located on the side without the door, but in the T7 California, the kitchen was pushed to the rear, creating a walkway behind the front seats. Thus, the induction cooker, sink, refrigerator and drawers became accessible both from the outside and from the inside.

The other big feature is California's PHEV powertrain. This is a first in the California family and is included in the standard Multivan T7 eHybrid model. This hybrid system, which produces a total of 1.4 horsepower by combining a 215-liter engine and a single electric motor, can travel 50 km electrified with a full charge.

VW states that "all of the Multivan's propulsion systems" will be available when the California goes into production in 2024. This means buyers can opt for pure petrol or diesel engines in addition to the eHybrid. What is your production zamInformation on how soon it will start or how much it will cost will be announced later.
