Piastri returns to the front line with new McLaren updates

Before the summer break, McLaren made a series of updates to improve the performance of the MCL60, and these updates worked. The team has struggled consistently for the podium in the last three races, with Piastri taking their first three finishes in Formula 1 in Saturday's sprint of the Belgian Grand Prix.

Piastri admitted that his result at Spa was "quite a distant dream" considering the start of the season. “I think pre-season we thought it would be possible under the right conditions. But when the season started, it was a distant dream for us to fight for the top three. It's pretty remarkable now to be here consistently over the past three weekends."

However, the grounded rookie states that he is not impressed by his first F1 success and says that his success at Spa does not change the fact that he has a long way to go to get the highest performance from both the car and himself. “I don't think it changes much of what I'm trying to do myself; each zamI am trying to get the best out of myself at the moment.”

Piastri said he was happy with the way his first season was going, but added that identifying and eliminating bugs should be their priority. When asked to evaluate his first six months in F1, the 22-year-old said: "I'm very happy with where I am, I think most of my season has been pretty good."

“I think there were definitely some mistakes or moments where I wish I could do it again, but when you look back, it's easy to say those kinds of things.”

"I'm happy with where I've come from in terms of driving, of course I still have a lot to improve and learn."

“I have a very strong teammate from whom I can learn something, and it helps me a lot to get up to speed even just as a benchmark. So yes, I am happy with where I am.”
