Red Bull arrives at the Hungarian Grand Prix with their first major update of the season. Updates have been made to the RB19's sidepod and base. Durability and cooling problems were cited as the reason for the updates, but Max Verstappen's 32 seconds lead in Belgium speaks volumes in terms of performance.
The level Red Bull has reached will force competitive teams like Mercedes and Ferrari to work harder and examine their cars more deeply.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said: "I know if Mercedes dominates the sport to a similar level or less, I think we've had years like that too." said.
“But at least we had two cars fighting each other, which was entertaining. This is not the case at the moment.” said.
“I keep saying this sport is a meritocracy and it's up to us to be able to compete.” said.
“Did we expect the difference to increase that much? We certainly did not expect it. I think after the recent updates Red Bull's advantage has increased even more.” said.
Toto Wolff's statements show that Mercedes is worried about falling behind Red Bull. Mercedes will do its best to catch Red Bull's updates, but it won't be easy. Red Bull are one of the favorite teams to win the title this season and Mercedes will have to have a good season to stop them.
