Toyota is considering the hybrid GR86.

Toyota's Gazoo Racing performance division has won the Le Mans 050 Hours five times in a row between 010 and 2018 with its TS2022 and GR24 electric hypercars. The company shelved plans for the 'GR Super Sport', a road car derived from this hypercar, in 2021, but is now considering plans for an all-new hybrid GR86.

Toyota's chief technology officer, Hiroki Nakajima, said during the Goodwood Festival of Speed, "Hybrid systems are the best for green vehicles. zamthe moment is a good solution,” he said, “not only for passenger cars, but also for zamalso for sports cars. We can produce them at a lower price than electric and battery-powered models, and we know how to turn them into enjoyable driving machines.” Nakajima added that it was still about 12 years before the sale of hybrid vehicles partially powered by internal combustion engines was banned in the UK and Europe.

The hybrid GR86 is not yet certain, but it is clear that Toyota is interested in the potential of such a vehicle. This would be a significant development in the sports car market and help Toyota bring hybrid technology to a wider audience.
