German automaker BMW may have decided to discontinue the 6 Series Gran Turismo model. Launched in 2017, the model failed to achieve the expected market success for the Munich-based company. Sales in Germany, in particular, remained quite low.

While only 509 units were sold last year, the 2022 Series family, which shares the same platform and engines in 5, managed to reach four-digit sales figures on a monthly basis. Halfway through 2023, the 6 Series Gran Turismo was the lowest-selling BMW model in the country, with just 237 deliveries.

We can say that this decision of BMW is a response to the termination of the production process of the model due to low demand. The company's executives state that low demand and sales figures point to the failure of the 6 Series GT in the market. For this reason, according to the news in BimmerToday, BMW will remove the 2024 Series GT from its product range for the 6 model year.

The only version of the 6 Series GT sold in the United States was the 640i xDrive, which was available in the 2019 model year. In Europe, 2.0 and 3.0-liter turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options were offered. However, the M version of the 6 Series GT was not available and had not received any special treatment by BMW's high-performance unit.

Stopping the production of the 6 Series GT is thought to be a significant loss for BMW. The model had the potential to become one of the company's best-selling models in the premium segment. However, this potential could not be realized due to low demand and sales figures.

Cessation of the 6 Series GT could also negatively affect BMW's competitiveness in the premium segment. The model played an important role to compete with the company's other premium cars. However, with the cessation of production, no other model will be able to take over this role and BMW's market share may decrease.
