With the opening of Air Liquide and Iveco Group's high-pressure hydrogen refueling station in Fos-sur-Mer and the delivery of hydrogen trucks, the road to hydrogen long-haul mobility in Europe is paved. This important step is the result of the Memorandum of Understanding, which combines Air Liquide's expertise in production, storage and distribution with the Iveco Group's know-how in the field of alternative fuel vehicles.

The hydrogen refueling station in Fos-sur-Mer is a large-capacity high-pressure station providing low-carbon hydrogen and is capable of producing 1 tonne of hydrogen per day. The same at the opening of this station zamAt the same time, the IVECO heavy-duty fuel cell truck prototype was also introduced. The opening takes a step further from the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2021 between Air Liquide and the Iveco Group.

This MOU aims to expand hydrogen in the transport sector. With Air Liquide's expertise in hydrogen production, storage and distribution, and the Iveco Group's leadership in vehicle production, it aims to expand the use of hydrogen throughout Europe. This solution provides fast refueling at 700 bar pressure used for long-distance transportation.

The Fos-sur-Mer station is part of the HyAMMED (“Hydrogène à Aix-Marseille pour une Mobilité Ecologique et Durable”) project supported by French funds. Same zamIt is a project realized with the co-financing of the European project H2Haul. Air Liquide and Iveco Group were among the first partners to join the H2Haul project in 2019. Within the scope of the R'Hyse project, it is planned to establish a second high-capacity station (700 bar, 2 tons/day) for heavy vehicles in Salon-de-Provence. This station will potentially be able to support 50 Iveco hydrogen trucks.

Erwin Penfornis, Vice President of Air Liquide Hydrogen Energy World Business, emphasized the importance of creating the conditions for the development of the industry in order to encourage the wider use of hydrogen. Penfornis stated that the beginning of a larger goal shared with Iveco has been made.

Gerrit Marx, CEO of Iveco Group, stated that sustainable mobility strategies require a technology-neutral approach. He stated that hydrogen mobility offers a fundamental solution for high-energy commercial vehicle applications such as long-distance transportation. Marx stated that the Iveco Group has further strengthened its strategic partnership with a leader like Air Liquide in their ambition to expand a sustainable society.

These developments represent a promising step towards advancing hydrogen long-haul mobility and the adoption of environmentally friendly transport solutions in Europe. It is aimed to contribute to a sustainable transportation future by developing hydrogen vehicles and fuel supply infrastructure.
