The recreated tire was unveiled as the 'new' Scorpion BK, the equipment of a private collector's LM002, at the Fuori Concorso event held at Villa Sucota on the shores of Lake Como and sponsored by Lamborghini Polo Storico.

Pirelli was asked to develop a very special tire for the Lamborghini LM1980, the forerunner of all sports SUVs in the early 002s. The Scorpion BK version, which was produced specifically for this model, was giant tires complete with so-called 'ears' side fins, which gave the car more agility and response on sand. In addition to providing superior road holding, this tire aimed to work in extremely close temperatures, to carry the weight of the car (approximately 3 kilograms), to respond to the expected speed of the V500, and to guarantee sporty performance on the asphalt. Therefore, these tires are operated using an extremely tough carcass with a more cut-resistant aramid belt reinforcement that can absorb impacts and react more quickly to sudden attackers.

First of the Scorpion line

The Scorpion BK was the carrier of the special Scorpion generation that Pirelli developed for its SUVs. This range has been completely revamped in 2022 to be designed for the most modern cars, including electric models. In fact, the Scorpion family has the most homologation for electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles in the entire Pirelli product range. The 'Eco-Friendly Security' approach used by Pirelli for the new Scorpion combines optimum performance with low impact on safety of use, thanks to material innovations and the use of state-of-the-art virtual design tools in the development process.
