While the market share of electric vehicles has been rapidly increasing recently, Peugeot is not ignoring users who say, "I don't want to say goodbye to fossil fuels yet."
The French manufacturer announced that it will continue to offer internal combustion engine versions of its popular 208 model, which is also very popular in the Turkish market, even after 2030.
"We'll stay in the market as long as customer demand continues."
Peugeot CEO Alain Favey stated that the new generation all-electric e-208 will be launched, but the current gasoline and hybrid engines will not be immediately discontinued. Favey said, “There is a large segment of drivers who have not yet adapted to the electric transformation. To meet their expectations, we will keep the current 208 model in production as long as demand continues,” thus delivering good news to traditional car enthusiasts.
The current 208 range offers mild hybrid systems alongside the newly introduced 1.2-liter Turbo 100 petrol engine. While Favey acknowledges that its main focus will be on electric architecture in the future, it is confident that internal combustion engines will remain on the roads beyond 2030.
Undoubtedly, it's impossible to continue with the same design until the 2030s. Peugeot will not let the current 208 model, which is nearing its 7th anniversary, succumb to the passage of time. To ensure design consistency with its electric sibling, the e-208, and to maintain its strong market position, the car is expected to undergo a comprehensive facelift, both inside and out.
