BYD’s premium automotive brand Denza has released the first official images of its new all-electric sedan, the Z9S. Shown in a new body color called Dawn Purple, the car will be available in rear-wheel-drive single-motor options, as well as a three-motor all-wheel-drive version producing 1.194 horsepower. The highest CLTC range announced in the model family reaches 920 kilometers.
Denza describes the Z9S as a “tech-focused luxury smart sedan.” The model continues the design lines of the Denza Z9 family in a shorter body. The car is 5.090 mm long, 1.980 mm wide, and 1.490 or 1.510 mm high depending on the version. The wheelbase is stated as 3.025 mm, and the cabin has seating for five. The Z9S has a body 145 mm shorter and a wheelbase 100 mm shorter than the current Denza Z9.
Dawn Purple, the new body color option introduced with the model, features a slim, two-part headlight design at the front. The main lighting units are located on the sides of the bumper, while the lower section is shaped by a horizontal panel and a three-part air duct design. A laser sensor is located on the roof, and surround-sensing cameras are positioned on the front fenders.
The design features a sloping C-pillar on the sides and a roofline that tapers towards the rear. Hidden door handles are integrated into the body surface. The rear includes slim, layered taillights, a recessed license plate holder, and a camera located behind the roof. The front and rear bumpers retain a similar layered design. Denza has not yet shared images of the car's interior.
Vehicle registrations for the Z9S include two different rear-wheel-drive, single-motor versions. The entry-level version produces 320 kW, approximately 429 horsepower, of peak power with a permanent magnet synchronous motor located on the rear axle. The motor's nominal power is recorded as 160 kW. This version has an unladen weight of 2.250 kg and a maximum loaded weight of 2.700 kg.
The 320 kW model uses 245/50 R19 tires at the front and 275/45 R19 tires at the rear. The maximum speed is set at 250 km/h. The lithium iron phosphate cells are manufactured by Hefei BYD, while the battery pack assembly is carried out by Shanwei FinDreams Battery.
The more powerful single-engine version boasts a peak power output of 370 kW, or approximately 496 horsepower. The engine's nominal power is 185 kW. The rear-wheel-drive car is listed with a curb weight of 2.545 kg and a maximum loaded weight of 3.017 kg. This version features 245/45 R20 tires at the front and 275/40 R20 tires at the rear, and the top speed is still limited to 250 km/h.
The lithium iron phosphate cells for the 370 kW version are manufactured by Wuwei FinDreams Battery. Shenzhen BYD Auto Industry is involved in the production and assembly process of the battery pack. Single-motor versions feature a 102,326 kWh battery pack and are listed with a range of 920 kilometers according to the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) standard.
The most powerful option in the Z9S family features three electric motors: one at the front and two at the rear. The all-wheel-drive system produces a combined power of 890 kW, approximately 1.194 horsepower. This version uses Denza's Yi San Fang platform, which independently controls the three electric motors.
All three motor models feature a 102,326 kWh battery. With increased motor power and all-wheel drive, the CLTC boasts a recorded range of 780 kilometers. Detailed type approval information for the three-motor version has not been released as comprehensively as for the two single-motor models. Acceleration times, charging capacity, and energy consumption figures have not yet been disclosed.
Standard equipment on the Z9S includes a panoramic glass roof and an on-board event recorder. An electric rear spoiler, different exterior rearview mirrors, alternative door handles, and an ETC electronic switching unit are available as options. The more powerful version will also offer different wheel designs and brake caliper colors.
Denza did not provide detailed technical specifications regarding the second-generation Blade Battery, fast charging system, and God's Eye B driving assistance package. The model's trim levels, price, release date, and market launch schedule outside of China were also not shared.
Of the brand's existing products, the Denza D9 reached 6.952 deliveries in June 2026. The Denza Z9 GT recorded 6.025 deliveries during the same period. These figures do not include the Z9S, which is not yet available for sale.
