Togg, Türkiye's domestic electric car manufacturer, is quietly taking a revolutionary step to increase its competitiveness in the global market and optimize its cost structure.
The new long-range Togg T10X models, available for sale as of today, feature LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery technology, known for its safety and longevity in the electric vehicle world.
With the new battery architecture, the vehicle's capacity is updated to 89,6 kWh, resulting in shorter charging times and a slight increase in weight.
This strategic move, which will directly impact user experience, also has the potential to disrupt the balance in the local electric vehicle market.
What advantages does LFP battery technology bring to Togg?
In the electric vehicle sector, manufacturers generally focus on two main battery chemistries: NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) and LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate). Togg preferred NMC batteries, which have a higher energy density, in its initial production models.
However, the widespread use of LFP batteries in budget-friendly models by giants like BYD and Tesla in the global market is making this technology mainstream.
The biggest advantage of LFP batteries is that their production costs are much lower compared to NMC batteries. This move by Togg allows it to reduce the production costs of the vehicle and pursue a much more aggressive pricing policy both in the domestic market and in the European market, which is its export target.
Moreover, LFP batteries offer the highest standards in fire safety because they have the lowest risk of thermal runaway chemistry. Furthermore, these batteries, which do not experience performance loss even after being charged thousands of times, promise users a much longer battery life.
Changes in Technical Data: Performance and Capacity
LFP batteries have a slightly lower energy density than NMC batteries. This means that physically more cells, and therefore more weight, are needed to store the same amount of energy.
Despite the increase in weight, Togg engineers are making a slight adjustment to the battery capacity, increasing it to 89,6 kWh, in order to maintain the vehicle's range at the same level.
The approximately 20 kilograms of extra weight added by the new battery has a slight impact on the vehicle's performance data.

The 0-100 km/h acceleration time, which was 7,8 seconds in previous generation long-range Togg models, is stated as 8,0 seconds in the technical data sheets for the new LFP battery versions.
However, in everyday urban and intercity driving scenarios, this 0,2-second difference is unlikely to be noticeable to drivers.
The improvement in the charging curve is noteworthy.
One of the biggest advantages of the new battery integration for the user is the reduction in charging time. According to technical data, the charging time for the new long-range Togg models at high-speed DC charging stations is reduced from 28 minutes to 26,5 minutes.
While a 1,5-minute reduction in travel time might seem like a minor detail, from an engineering perspective, this represents a significant improvement in the charging curve of the new LFP battery pack.
The battery can maintain high current for much longer periods and manages heat more effectively.
How will user experience be affected?
When behind the wheel, the new Togg T10X models with LFP batteries don't offer a significantly different feeling of driving comfort and power compared to previous models. However, there is a change in charging habits that will ease user concerns.
While experts advise against constantly charging NMC batteries to 100% to preserve their lifespan, LFP batteries, by their nature, can always be safely charged to 100%. This means users can embark on every trip with full capacity and without worrying about battery health.
