Mercedes has announced a new generation V8 engine for its popular SUV models, the GLE 63 S and GLS 63. These new power units promise higher efficiency and responsiveness while maintaining the performance values offered by previous models.
Mercedes-AMG has introduced the most powerful members of its updated GLE and GLS series to the technology world. These new models take the brand's claim in the performance-oriented SUV segment to a new level.
New M177 EVO Engine and Hybrid Support
The new GLE 63 S and GLS 63 models use the 4.0-liter twin-turbo M177 EVO V8 engine, first seen in the updated S-Class. This engine delivers impressive performance, producing 603 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque.

In addition to the power unit, a 48-volt mild hybrid system and an integrated starter generator accompany the vehicle. This system provides an extra 23 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque, enhancing driving dynamics.

All this power is transmitted to the road via the AMG Speedshift TCT nine-speed transmission and the 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. The system allows for variable torque distribution between the wheels.

Performance and Driving Technologies
The GLE 63 S accelerates from 0 to 96 km/h in 3,6 seconds, while the larger-bodied GLS 63 completes the same process in 3,9 seconds. Both models have an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h.

The Ride Control+ air suspension system in the vehicles adapts to different driving modes with its adaptive damping feature. Trail mode increases the ground clearance by 2,2 inches, providing an advantage in off-road conditions, while Sport and Comfort modes lower the vehicle closer to the ground.

AMG Active Ride Control technology improves the handling of these large SUVs by minimizing body movement. The electronically controlled rear differential with locking mechanism is another important detail that supports cornering performance.
Visually, the GLE models stand out with their darkened front grille and redesigned air intakes. The GLS, on the other hand, retains its traditional chrome grille structure while exhibiting a more imposing stance with 23-inch wheel options.
Inside, the new AMG Performance steering wheel is available in leather, microfiber, or a combination of both. Carbon fiber details and customizable upholstery options complete the luxurious feel of the cabin.
