Hyundai unveiled the new generation i20 in Brazil. The brand confirmed that the model shown is a preview of the future global i20, adding that while the European version will use the same platform, it will differ in design, engine options, interior layout, and suspension settings.

The new i20 stands out with its design that moves away from the traditional hatchback look and approaches a crossover character. Adopting Hyundai's new design language, the model gives the impression of a scaled-down SUV with its plastic body protectors, raised appearance, black pillars, and flat roofline. Reminiscent of the brand's Creta model in terms of design, the car also hints at future Hyundai models.
The front features a wide grille, full-width LED daytime running lights, and a horizontal Y-shaped light signature. The muscular side profile, rising shoulder line, and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels (available on top trim levels) are also noteworthy details.
The new generation i20 has a wheelbase of 2.580 mm, the same as the current i20 in Europe. However, with its increased dimensions, the car reaches a length of 4.130 mm and a height of 1.505 mm.
The level of technology in the cabin has increased.
Inside the cabin, the level of technology has been significantly increased. The independently designed digital cockpit features two 12,3-inch screens. Despite the increasing use of touchscreens, Hyundai hasn't abandoned physical buttons. Numerous physical control units are located on the steering wheel and center console, while a separate climate control panel is positioned between the air vents. The Ultimate trim level shown in the images also features two-tone synthetic leather upholstery.
The model designed for the Brazilian market does not include any electrification. The entry-level model features a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that can run on either gasoline or ethanol. This engine can produce up to 79 horsepower, while the turbocharged 1.0-liter option offers 113 horsepower. Both engines are available with either a manual or automatic transmission and transmit power to the front wheels.
The new i20 will be manufactured at the Piracicaba factory in Brazil. Prices start at around $19.800 for the entry-level model, while the top-of-the-line version with a turbo engine and automatic transmission reaches approximately $27.700.
In Europe, production of the current third-generation i20 continues. The model produced in our country was introduced in 2020 and underwent a facelift in 2023. The new generation European i20 is expected to be unveiled at the end of 2026 or in 2027.
The European version is said to use the same platform as the Brazilian model but will come with mild hybrid engine options. Additionally, the suspension system will be retuned for European roads, and there will be regional differences in interior and exterior design.
While an N Line version is expected to be offered for users seeking a sporty character, there are also rumors that Hyundai may bring back the performance-oriented i20 N model with a more powerful self-charging hybrid system.
