Ford is preparing for a significant change in its European product strategy. The company is planning to revive the legendary Fiesta name, which it discontinued on July 7, 2023, to make way for electric vehicles. Ford's new strategic plan, dubbed "Ready Set Ford," aims to introduce five new passenger car models to the European market by the end of 2029. This strategy emphasizes the development of electric models suitable for urban use, particularly in the B segment. The Fiesta name is considered one of the strongest candidates for reuse in this new product range.
Platform Partnership with Renault and the Next Generation Compact Approach
According to leaked information, Ford may base its new compact electric model on Renault's AmpR Small platform. This architecture, used in models such as the Renault 5 E-Tech, Alpine A290, and the new Nissan Micra, offers Ford the possibility of a rapid electric transformation without developing a platform from scratch. The reference platform offers a range potential of over 400 kilometers with 40 kWh and 52 kWh battery options. However, Ford's vehicles will feature brand-specific differences in design and driving characteristics. It is stated that the new electric model will be completely different from the Fiesta's past mechanical structure and will be introduced within the European launch plan after 2028.
