Yüce Auto-Skoda, a leading company in the electric vehicle retail sector in Türkiye, has partnered with ABB, a Swiss-based leader in automation and electrification technologies, to provide service to electric vehicle owners stranded on the road. The aim is to save time by bringing charging station services to users' locations and to eliminate range anxiety as a factor hindering consumer purchasing decisions. In this project, which utilizes ABB products, the compact size and resistance to shocks and vibrations of the inverters are of significant importance.
Within the scope of Yüce Auto-Škoda's mobile charging solutions, commercial vans are being transformed into fast charging stations for electric vehicles of all makes and models. Developed to eliminate range anxiety and service interruptions, which have become the most important concerns for potential electric vehicle buyers and existing electric vehicle users, this project allows users to summon a mobile charging station to their location via an application when their battery runs out or they cannot access a charging station.
The main components of the fast charging solutions in this project consist of a charging unit, an electric vehicle battery, a liquid cooling system, a control unit, and auxiliary equipment. Furthermore, since the vehicles frequently need to operate on challenging roads and rough terrain, the onboard equipment is shock-resistant, ensuring uninterrupted service. The mobile charging vehicles operate with a compact structure that is resistant to high temperatures and easily integrated and configured with the control systems, ensuring reliable operation of the drive system. To meet these requirements, Supreme Auto-Škoda uses ABB's HES880 mobile inverter. ABB's solution includes not only the inverter but also the low-voltage auxiliary equipment that supports the smooth operation of the system.
Zafer Başar, General Manager of Yüce Auto-Skoda“We are taking our strong collaboration with ABB, which we started in the field of fixed charging stations, even further with our mobile charging services. As Yüce Auto-Škoda, from the moment we introduced our electric vehicles to the Turkish market, we set out with the goal of creating an ecosystem and a seamless electric vehicle experience, rather than just a product. Within this ecosystem, our mobile charging stations, which will serve all makes and models of electric vehicle owners, are undoubtedly one of the most remarkable projects. In addition, our dealer network, which has the fastest charging station infrastructure in Türkiye, stands out as part of this system. We are pleased to realize such a large-scale investment in the electric transformation of the automotive industry with a global technology leader like ABB,” he said.
Robust inverters for demanding applications.
ASaim Baran, BB Global Rail Systems Retrofit Business Unit Manager and Türkiye Propulsion Systems Division Manager“We are pleased that our collaboration with Yüce Auto-Škoda Turkey, which has the fastest charging infrastructure in Türkiye with 360 kW DC technology, is continuing and expanding with mobile DC fast charging solutions. These solutions, which stand out with their compact and robust structure developed with ABB technologies, are designed to offer reliable performance in high temperatures, vibrations, and challenging field conditions. Thanks to these features, they constitute an ideal solution for mobile fast vehicle charging systems. This collaboration, which combines ABB's global engineering power with the application expertise of its partners, also contributes to the development of innovative and reliable solutions in the field of e-mobility.”
ABB HES880 mobile inverters, used in Yüce Auto-Skoda solutions, offer a flexible operating structure as DC/DC converters, providing both slow and fast charging options in electric vehicle charging processes. Thanks to ABB's advanced onboard software infrastructure, the system can quickly provide energy support to electric vehicles left in the field with its fast discharge feature when needed. This structure, which contributes to the optimization of energy costs, offers slow charging during low-tariff hours and fast charging from 20% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes in emergency situations. The most fundamental criterion of the functional safety principle is to minimize potential failures before isolating the fault on-site. Prioritizing user safety with its maintenance-free closed-system design and HVIL (high voltage interlock loop) safety feature, HES880 mobile inverters create a flexible and reliable solution in electric vehicle infrastructure with operating modes and current options suitable for different power needs.
These technologies support zero-emission mobility while also contributing to a circular economy approach by recycling end-of-life batteries.
This collaboration between ABB and Yüce Auto-Škoda is more than just a technology partnership; it reflects a shared vision to make e-mobility more flexible, faster, and more accessible in the field. This development extends from fixed infrastructure to mobile solutions, bringing together the strengths of both companies in their goal of providing a more seamless, practical, and highly efficient experience for electric vehicle users.
