The iconic Russian model Lada Niva has resurfaced with a completely redesigned version, according to leaked patent images. The shared designs suggest the vehicle could take on a much more modern SUV identity, even bearing similarities in design language to Dacia models. It's claimed that this similarity is no coincidence.
Among the most striking details in the images are the round headlight design, reminiscent of the classic Niva, and the angular, robust body structure. In addition, the vehicle has gained a more contemporary look, very close to today's SUV design philosophy, with more muscular fenders, a raised shoulder line, and modern LED lighting.
WAS THERE A COLLABORATION WITH RENAULT?
It is claimed that the project was initially developed during a period of collaboration with Renault. However, after Renault withdrew from the Russian market, the work was continued entirely with local engineering capabilities.
Dacia will use the CMF-B platform.
While the new model is planned to be built on Renault-Dacia's CMF-B platform, some sources suggest it may instead feature an architecture derived from the Lada Vesta platform. Engine options are expected to include AvtoVAZ's current 1.6 and 1.8-liter petrol units.
While the Lada Niva Legend has remained virtually unchanged in production since 1977, the Lada Niva Travel has been on the market since 1998 and has continued to be updated with various facelifts over the years. In addition to these models, the Lada Azimut is expected to be introduced this year as part of Lada's new SUV initiative.
