Hyundai's new electric sedan model for the Chinese market, the Ioniq V, has appeared in the latest regulatory application catalog of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The model will be launched in both battery-electric and range-extended electric versions.
The Hyundai Ioniq V is built on the brand's E-GMP electric vehicle platform. With the official registration process in China, it has become clear that the sedan model will be offered in both fully electric and EREV (range-extended electric powertrain) options. This demonstrates Hyundai's establishment of a broader product strategy in China, responding to diverse user habits with a single model.

One of the most striking technical details of the model is its 800V fast charging support. This infrastructure brings Hyundai's fast charging architecture, currently used in its electric vehicle technology, to the Ioniq V, which was developed specifically for China.
The application also included a highly efficient electric drive system. The vehicle uses solutions from technology partners such as Momenta, Qualcomm, CATL, Baidu Wenxin large language models, and Volcano Engine.
The Ioniq V's dimensions have also been revealed. The sedan model is 4.900 mm long, 1.890 mm wide, and 1.470 mm high. The wheelbase is stated as 2.900 mm. These dimensions bring the vehicle closer to the upper-middle class electric sedan category.
In terms of design, Hyundai opted for a fastback sedan body style, moving away from the boxy electric SUV lines commonly seen in China. The Ioniq V features a low-profile silhouette, frameless doors, large aerodynamic wheels, and a full-width star-track taillight design at the rear. Beijing Hyundai previously stated that the model was developed by Hyundai's Chinese design team for Chinese consumers.
Inside the cabin, a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K screen, ambient lighting system, and a head-up display called Cyber Eye stand out. The Ioniq V is expected to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and dual AI large model support in the cockpit. The model will also feature Momenta-supported L2+ driving assistance functions.
The Ioniq V made its global debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April. At the show, Hyundai Motor CEO José Muñoz announced that the brand would launch 20 new models in China over the next five years, including electric, range-extending electric, hybrid, and gasoline vehicles. The Ioniq V is positioned as one of the first major China-focused electric models in this new product era.
Hyundai's sales figures in China also illustrate why this model is important. The brand sold 8.909 vehicles in China in March 2026, a 17,6% decrease year-on-year. Hyundai's market share in the same month was 0,5%. The company's sales in China were 6.603 in February 2026 and 11.401 in January 2026.
