According to a technical review report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affected vehicles experienced a delay in displaying the camera image on the screen when reversing. The agency stated that this restricts the driver's rear view, thereby increasing the risk of collision and jeopardizing driving safety.
AFFECTED MODELS
The recall covers four main models in Tesla's product range. The technical issue is said to affect specific versions of the following models from a particular production run:
Tesla Model 3
Tesla Model Y
Tesla Model S
Tesla Model X
THE UPDATE HAS STARTED TO BE RELEASED.
Tesla's official statement said the problem wasn't due to a hardware malfunction, therefore vehicle owners wouldn't need to go to service centers.
The company announced that it has fixed the bug by sending a new software version to vehicles via an "over-the-air update" method, and that the update distribution has begun.
INSPECTIONS ARE INCREASING.
The NHTSA has recently increased its oversight of Tesla. Last month, the agency completed an investigation into a feature that allows vehicles to be moved remotely, covering approximately 2,6 million vehicles. The latest investigations highlight that such software-related glitches often increase the risk of accidents during low-speed operations.
