BYD has launched the 2026 version of its small electric model, sold as Seagull in China and known as Dolphin Mini or Dolphin Surf in global markets. Available in four different versions, the new model updates the brand's entry-level electric family with a starting price of 69,900 yuan, a CLTC range of up to 405 kilometers, and an optional LiDAR-assisted driver assistance system.
The 2026 BYD Dolphin Mini is being sold in China with 305-kilometer and 405-kilometer range options. The Vitality Edition, with its 305-kilometer range, is priced at 69,900 yuan, while the Freedom Edition, also with 305-kilometer range, is priced at 78,900 yuan.

The 405-kilometer Zizai Edition remains priced at 78,900 yuan, while the 405-kilometer Flying Edition is listed at 85,900 yuan. Prices increase to 90,900 yuan and 97,900 yuan respectively when opting for the LiDAR-equipped God's Eye B, or DiPilot 300 package.
All versions of the model use a single electric motor. This motor produces 55 kW, or approximately 74 horsepower, and 135 Nm of torque. There are two battery options. The 30,08 kWh battery offers a range of 305 kilometers according to CLTC measurements, while the 38,88 kWh battery provides a range of 405 kilometers. These values are based on the CLTC standard used in China; lower range values may be seen in other markets using measurement standards such as WLTP.

The most notable innovation of the new Dolphin Mini is the optional LiDAR-assisted DiPilot 300 system. This package brings features such as city navigation-assisted driving, traffic light detection, and intersection assistance. On the safety side, a driver monitoring system, automatic emergency braking, and a five-way driving recorder are also included in the equipment list.
BYD has also updated the cabin. The vehicle features the DiLink 150 system and a 12,8-inch high-resolution central display. This screen allows access to 3D vehicle control and customized navigation features.
The interior features a new color theme called Oatmeal Rice. In terms of equipment, it offers 50W wireless phone charging, heated front seats, and a 6-way electrically adjustable driver's seat.
Instead of a major body redesign, the focus is on updated details. The 2026 BYD Dolphin Mini comes in two new exterior color options: Mango Orange and Mint Green. Warm Sun White and Peach Powder are retained among the existing color options. The vehicle features 16-inch Starlight wheels, redesigned LED taillights, and a new logo light design.
In terms of dimensions, the compact city car character is preserved. The new Dolphin Mini is 3.780 mm long, 1.715 mm wide, and 1.540 mm high. The wheelbase is stated as 2.500 mm. These measurements indicate that the model is positioned especially for city use, narrow streets, and parking spaces.
The competition for the BYD Dolphin Mini in China is also becoming increasingly fierce. The model peaked in sales in China last April with 34,005 units. After selling 30,708 units in June, monthly sales have not exceeded 30,000 units again.
This decline is partly due to the impact of new electric models in the same segment, primarily the Geely Xingyuan. Models like the Arcfox T1 and Leapmotor A10 are also among the options that have increased competition in the small electric vehicle class.
