ZF’s industry-leading modular transmission system, TraXon, has reached another significant production milestone with the 1,5 millionth unit rolling off the assembly line. Since its launch in 2014, TraXon has raised the bar for commercial vehicle transmissions worldwide and, manufactured at ZF’s network of factories in Germany, China and Brazil, continues to successfully meet the growing demand for highly efficient powertrains from customers around the world.
Christian Feldhaus, Vice President of Transmission and Hybrid Product Segment at ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions, commented on the matter: “TraXon has set industry standards with its innovative transmission technologies. Thanks to its high performance and efficiency, it quickly gained a global reputation as the benchmark transmission for heavy commercial vehicles worldwide. With TraXon 2, launched last year, we are taking this legacy even further with a transmission that offers faster gear changes, improved digital integration and enhanced fuel economy.”
Building on the success of ZF's TraXon platform, TraXon 2 is equipped with next-generation microprocessors, integrated safety modules, and comprehensive functional software updates, as well as updated ECUs and gear actuators designed and manufactured in-house. Offering improved fuel economy compared to its predecessor, TraXon 2 is ideal for heavy-duty truck and passenger bus applications, as well as specialized applications such as medium and heavy-duty mobile cranes.
As the industry moves towards electrification, ZF is already developing the next generation evolution of the platform with the TraXon 2 Hybrid. Designed to meet the demands of sustainable transportation, the hybrid system provides a zero-emission driving range by operating entirely on electricity in urban and congested areas, while switching to the internal combustion engine for longer journeys.
