Operating with the vision of "One Step Ahead in the Future of Mobility," Karsan continues to demonstrate global leadership in the transformation of public transportation. One of the company's flagship projects is... Autonomous e-ATTACKIn a first for Sweden, during the country's challenging winter conditions, it became one of the first autonomous buses to transport passengers in real road conditions in winter tourism regions.

Flawless Performance in Harsh Winter Conditions

Implemented as part of the Sälen–Idre Autonomous Public Transport Project (SIKTA), this application was tested in scenarios involving heavy snowfall, low temperatures, and complex traffic conditions starting in January 2026. Demonstrating superior performance on roads shared with pedestrians and skiers, the autonomous e-ATAK officially entered service on March 9, 2026, after receiving commercial approval from the Swedish Transport Authority. For approximately a month, the vehicle transported tourists along a 4,8-kilometer route between ski resorts and accommodation points, proving that autonomous technology is not just a pilot project, but a reliable part of real life.

Strong Collaboration and Global Reference

The project is being carried out by a massive coalition involving the municipalities of Malung-Sälen and Älvdalen, the University of Dalarna, Applied Autonomy, ADASTEC, and local businesses. Karsan CEO Okan Baş stated that this success demonstrates that autonomous mobility can operate seamlessly even in the most challenging scenarios. At the SIKTA Autonomous Mobility Conference held on April 8, 2026, the project's outputs were evaluated, highlighting this model as the "transportation of the future" for regions facing driver shortages and for sustainable tourism.

Future Goal: Fully Driverless Operation

Operational success in Sälen has opened a new door in Karsan's technological roadmap. While the next phase of the project plans to expand to the Idre region, Karsan's ultimate goal is to completely disable the safety driver in Stavanger, Norway, by 2026. With this move, the company continues to reinforce its pioneering position in the world of autonomous mobility and respond to the global demand for scalable tourism mobility.
