Chinese automotive giant Geely is preparing to establish a permanent presence in the European market with its compact electric model E2 (EX2) in the B segment. As a strategic move, the Ford Almussafes plant in Valencia, Spain, has been considered for the model's production. The factory, currently only producing the Ford Kuga, has underutilized capacity that could be significantly utilized through this new partnership.
Specifications and Performance
Built on the GEA platform, the Geely E2 is a 4.14-meter-long, five-door hatchback suitable for city driving. Expected to be offered in the European version with a 116 horsepower engine and a 39.4 kWh battery, the vehicle promises a range of approximately 325 km according to WLTP standards. Furthermore, thanks to 70 kW fast charging support, the battery can reach 80% charge in just 25 minutes.
Competitive Price and Strategic Advantage
Local production in Valencia will minimize Geely's logistics costs, allowing it to compete head-to-head on price with formidable rivals like the Citroen e-C3 and Renault 5. This collaboration will bring new investments to the Spanish economy while adding a strong and accessible alternative to Europe's budget-friendly electric vehicle market. If the deal goes through, it will add a new dimension to the localization strategy of Chinese brands in Europe.
