Aftermarket audio and video systems installed in vehicles are now subject to strict controls under the new Traffic Law. Drivers found to have such systems in their vehicles face administrative fines of up to 21 Turkish Lira. Illegal use of subsequently added multimedia screens Authorities have made statements on the matter and indicated that there is no objection to using the original equipment. Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, regarding the existing sound system in the vehicle, said: in a way that will not disturb the public He stated that listening to the audio could continue.
They were given until April 1st. With this statement, the timeframe for implementing non-standard license plates, as well as subsequently added audio and video systems that disturb drivers and citizens, has been clarified. The instructions on this matter aim to bring them into compliance with the regulations also known in the public as APP license plates.
Changes referred to as "modifications" in the law must be brought into compliance with regulatory requirements. Permission is mandatory for many modifications, such as body kits, hood and grille modifications, roof vents, and painting and coating processes. Furthermore, devices such as navigation systems and televisions inside the vehicle must be installed in accordance with regulations. The necessary permits for implementing these modifications, which were previously prohibited, comply with Article 32 of the Traffic Law and related regulations. However, it is observed that unplanned modifications are sometimes made in workshops by bypassing these processes.
Prohibited practices and those subject to penalties Among these practices is the practice of lowering the suspension of vehicles, which requires technical modifications and therefore leads to serious safety problems. Such modifications are considered a violation of regulations and are punishable. In 2026, fines for such violations could reach up to 4,300 TL, and 20 penalty points could be added to the driver's license. Drivers who reach 100 penalty points may have their licenses revoked.
Sound systems and distracting visual devices The regulation introduced includes restrictions on the use of noisy systems, music and video devices inside vehicles without the driver's permission. In this case, drivers are subject to an administrative fine of 21 Turkish Lira and the vehicles are impounded for 30 days. After the regulation comes into effect, the installation of such accessories by auto repair shops will also be strictly monitored; if deemed necessary, vehicles will be withdrawn from traffic for removal and the modifications will be reversed.
