ZF and BMW Sign Future-Oriented Driving Agreement

ZF Friedrichshafen AG and BMW Group have signed a long-term supply agreement for passenger car drive systems. The agreement is based on the further development and supply of the proven 8-speed automatic transmission (8HP). This multi-billion euro agreement will run until the end of the 2030s and provides a solid foundation for both companies to shape the future of low-emission mobility with new technologies.

ZF CEO Mathias Miedreich stated: “Together with BMW, we are sending a strong message about innovation, efficiency and sustainability in an industry undergoing a dynamic transformation. This agreement underlines the strategic importance of our 8-speed automatic transmission, which is key to the transformation of drive systems.”

As part of the collaboration, the 8HP transmission kit will be continuously improved. The aim is to offer customers the most powerful and efficient transmission to meet the requirements of future driving concepts.

Sebastian Schmitt, Head of ZF Electric Drive Technologies, said, “The new agreement with BMW demonstrates the importance of a long-term planning perspective for technological developments. This agreement provides clarity and stability for both companies, enabling us to harmonize the new generation 8HP, particularly in terms of efficiency, performance and long-term viability.”

ZF is thus strengthening its position as a systems supplier and further enhancing planning reliability. This close collaboration in the coming period will help mitigate risks in rapidly changing market conditions and will also lay the foundation for the future of low-emission mobility.
