Electric Revolution in Munich: New BMW i3 in Pre-Series Production

Munich, the heart of BMW, is hosting one of the most important milestones in the brand's electrification history. Pre-production of the new BMW i3, scheduled to hit the roads in the second half of 2026, has officially begun. This move means that the legendary i3 model will be produced from start to finish at the company's main factory for the first time. The production process is supported by a completely modernized press shop, a new body shop, and updated logistics systems.

Advanced Technology and Digital Architecture

Plant manager Peter Weber emphasizes that pre-series production is a critical testing phase for the smooth commissioning of the main line. During this process, BMW tests all its equipment under real operating conditions. Augmented reality (AR) technologies, particularly those used in employee training, aim to maximize assembly quality.

Global Transition to Electrification

The new i3 will be one of the key models built on BMW’s digital architecture. Transferring prototype expertise from the research center directly to the main factory accelerates the brand’s large-scale electrification transformation. This strategic step is tangible proof of how BMW is integrating its established production facilities into the digital and sustainable world of the future.
