Ford Motor has filed a patent application for a new lighting system that will enhance the functionality of its pickup models. This technology, which aims to improve loading and maneuvering capabilities, particularly in low-light environments, involves integrating lighting modules directly into the vehicle's side walls.
Movable Modules and Functional Design
The system is based on special modules mounted on side rail guides that have bidirectional movement capability. These units can be raised upwards or opened outwards from the body as needed. This flexible structure illuminates not only the cargo bed but also the surroundings of the vehicle over a wide angle. This allows drivers to maneuver much more safely in dark terrain or confined spaces.
Operational Efficiency and Safety
When the task is complete, the modules automatically retract back into the body. This “concealment” feature provides extra volume in the loading area while preventing protruding parts from coming into contact with fragile loads and being damaged. Ford’s new patent move aims to reinforce its competitive position in the pickup segment by combining user comfort with safety. The technology is expected to become a standard feature in the brand’s next-generation electric and internal combustion pickup models.
