One of the first noticeable changes in the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E models is the removal of the front trunk, known as the frunk, from the standard equipment list. This part has been removed as an option available for an additional fee, shown in the configurator with a cost of $495.

This change, seen in Ford's online configuration, has led to frunk being offered as an option across all trim levels. This decision is seen as a cost-saving measure based on user behavior, going beyond what is common in electric vehicles. The company notes that a significant portion of Mach-E owners rarely use the front trunk; therefore, reducing frunk output eased production costs, and these savings were reflected in the models.
The 2026 update wasn't limited to just the frunk. The map pockets on the back of the front seats were also removed. Additionally, the rear spoiler and graphics, which were standard on the Mach-E Rally version, are now options, and the Bronze Appearance Package has been discontinued.
New physical touches were quickly noticed: small grab handles similar to those on the front doors were added to the rear doors, and the doors still open with a button. However, there is a handle to maintain the door tension after opening. Due to safety regulations regarding electronic door handles and different regulations in some markets, there is talk that manufacturers may return to more traditional designs.
