China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has begun taking significant steps toward global markets with the detailed introduction of the German automaker's new electric model, the AUDI E7X. These developments highlight the vehicle's dimensions, performance, and potential export opportunities, particularly in regions like Europe. The new E7X is the second model from the all-electric AUDI brand, a joint venture between SAIC and Volkswagen, and reinforces the brand's strong position in the EV segment.
The vehicle's imposing dimensions and advanced LiDAR technology The brand's use of its globally recognized logo to create a new identity in the rapidly changing electric vehicle market is considered a significant step towards breaking away from its previous identity and becoming an independent brand. The company's stylish station wagon, the AUDI E5 Sportback, currently on sale and reflecting technology developed in China, paved the way for the new model. The E7X's dimensions are impressive; 5.05 meters long, 1.99 meters wide, and 1.71 meters high. Its 3.06-meter wheelbase also reflects the generous living space offered inside. The largest, all-wheel-drive version has a stated total weight of 2.673 kg, yet it delivers high performance despite these dimensions.
One of the model's most striking features is its large LiDAR unit mounted on the windshield. This technology pioneers innovations including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving capabilities. Drivers can personalize the vehicle's appearance by choosing from large optional 21-inch or 22-inch wheels.
Power and Performance Options
- Rear Wheel Drive (RWD): This version, which reaches 300 kW power with a single electric motor, provides high efficiency in daily use.
- All-Wheel Drive (AWD): The second engine, added to the front of the dual-motor system, produces a total of 500 kW (670 hp) and is ideal for performance-oriented drivers.
Both engine options are built with components supplied by Chinese manufacturer Huayu Automotive. The battery technology is provided by the trusted Chinese manufacturer CATL and is designed to support the model's range and speed. While the battery capacity has not yet been officially announced, it promises high performance, low charging times, and long range.
One of the most striking design features is the large wheels, designed to enhance the vehicle's width and power output. This enhances the SUV's large, powerful appearance. The top speed is set at 230 km/h, demonstrating that the model offers ample performance suitable for both city and highway driving.
While the internal battery and motor components are being developed in China, particularly by local partners like Huayu Automotive, its expansion into European and other international markets is gaining momentum. Volkswagen Group also registered the E7X trademark with an application filed with the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on December 2nd. These steps demonstrate its goal of increasing exports of the Chinese-made vehicle and its presence in global markets. Furthermore, there are ongoing calls in Europe to lift tariffs on imports of Chinese-made electric vehicles, reinforcing the model's international competitiveness.
