BALLISTIC SYSTEM AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN JUDICIAL INVESTIGATIONS
Developing technology also offers important innovations in the field of forensic sciences. DHA TÜBİTAK developed by BALLISTIC system is effectively used by the Gendarmerie and the Criminal Department of Security. This advanced technology can record three-dimensional images of bullet casings and makes it possible to identify firearms associated with crimes even years later.
The Role of Bursa Regional Criminal Police Laboratory
One of the 10 laboratories affiliated with the Criminal Department of the General Directorate of Security Bursa Regional Criminal Police Laboratory, makes a great contribution to the resolution of criminal cases by conducting biological and chemical analyses. This laboratory, which has a wide area of responsibility covering seven provinces and 86 districts, meticulously examines the evidence received from the courthouse, gendarmerie and police department. Laboratory Director İsmail Yalçın, “Our duty is to ensure that the truth is revealed by using scientific methods in judicial processes” He emphasizes this mission with his statements.
Duties of the Ballistics Investigation Branch Directorate
The Ballistics Investigation Department, operating within the laboratory, plays a critical role in solving crimes committed with firearms. The weapons examined as elements of the crime are primarily in ballistic water shooting tank are subjected to test and comparison shooting. The bullet cores and casings obtained during this process are compared with the evidence found at the scene to determine whether the weapon is connected to a crime.
Digital Archiving and Storage of Hives
The cartridge cases and bullet cores obtained from the comparison shots, Firearm, Ammunition, Case and Bullet Inspection BureauIt is subjected to detailed analysis. After these examinations under the microscope, the data is BALLISTIC is recorded in the system. Ballistics Expert Serdar Hanci, states that BALİSTİKA is a digital archive of bullets that are involved in crimes throughout Turkey but whose weapons have not yet been identified. This system makes a great contribution to the resolution of crimes by providing one-to-one comparisons of the bullets obtained at the scene of the crime and the bullets obtained from the comparison shots made with the weapons sent for examination.
Criminal Cases Solved After 11 Years
Thanks to BALISTIKA, even crimes committed years ago can be solved. By matching the database, the connections between firearms involved in crimes and past crimes can be determined. Serdar Hancı shared an example that shows the effectiveness of the system, “The weapon used in 2005 different incidents, including murder, wounding, shooting and endangering public safety, committed at different times and places since 7, was seized during a public order operation in 2016. As a result of the examination and comparisons made in our laboratory, these 7 crimes were solved 11 years later.” In the last year, with the contribution of BALİSTİKA, 145 incidents were linked to each other, and the weapons used in 357 unsolved incidents were identified.
Technology Developed with Local and National Resources
This system, developed locally and nationally, increases Turkey’s technological competence in criminal investigations while providing security forces with a great advantage in the fight against crime. The solutions offered by BALISTIKA make significant contributions to reducing crime rates and increasing public safety. Such technological investments are of critical importance for both public safety and the effectiveness of the justice system.
As a result
Advanced ballistic systems play an important role in solving crimes with the advantages they offer in the field of forensic science. BALLISTIC, has become an important tool in the fight against crime by increasing the success rate of Turkey's criminal investigations. This innovative approach to the detection of criminal elements and evidence analysis will continue to achieve more success in the future.
