According to the charging service statistics provided by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), a significant increase is observed in the number of electric vehicles in Turkey. This adventure, which started with 2016 electric vehicles in 737, reached 2017 in 947 and 2018 in 1.193. However, this increase gained momentum with the launch of Turkey's domestic electric vehicle TOGG in 2022. According to the news by Mithat Yurdakul from Milliyet, as of August 2023, the number of electric vehicles in traffic reached 41.393, while 2023 ended with a total of 80.826 electric vehicles. As of August of this year, Turkey had 138.429 electric vehicles. Thus, there was a record increase of approximately 100 thousand in the number of electric vehicles in the last year.
22 Thousand Charging Points
Thanks to the investments made by charging network operators, there were a total of 2023 charging sockets in Turkey in August 6.390, 1.947 of which were AC (slow) and 8.337 of which were DC (fast). However, this number increased to 2024, 14.226 of which were AC and 8.259 of which were DC, as of August 22.485. The total installed power of charging points has shown a significant improvement in the last year, increasing from 387 megawatts to 1.390 megawatts. This data shows that the number of electric vehicles per charging socket in Turkey is 5,1. However, this figure is 13,75 on average in the European Union countries.
Companies licensed by the EPDK have invested approximately $300 million in the sector to date. It is stated that this investment amount will reach $5 billion in the next 1 years. As of August, ZES, the company with the most chargers, ranked first with 4.086 sockets, followed by Eşarj with 1.818, Voltrun with 1.225, Trugo with 1.123, Astor with 419 and Beefull with 386.
2030 Million Electric Vehicles in 1.3
EPDK not only monitors the development of the sector, but also develops scenarios regarding the electric car development process to establish an adequate charging infrastructure. In the medium scenario, it is expected that the number of electric vehicles in Turkey will reach 2030 million and the number of charging points will reach 1,3 in 142.000. It is estimated that the number of electric vehicles will reach 2035 million and the number of charging points will reach 3,3 in 273.000. In this projection study, it is expected that approximately 2030 million dollars will be invested in charging units and equipment by 990 and 2035 billion dollars by 2.
