Factors such as climate change, environmental concerns and the energy crisis trigger the spread of electric vehicles. Lawyer Fatih Özdemir evaluated the problems related to electric charging stations and the legal and legal status of the stations. According to data from Research and Markets, the number of electric vehicles (EV) worldwide, which was 2022 million by 9,5, will reach 2030 million with a compound annual growth rate of 30,7 percent by 80,7. In Turkey, which has adopted a strategy that all new vehicle sales will consist of 2030 percent electric vehicles by 100, it is expected that 2,5 million electric vehicles will be on the road in ten years. While the increase in the number of electric vehicles necessitates the establishment of a legal basis for charging stations, Lawyer Fatih Özdemir from the Turkish Law Blog team said that the regulations regarding EV charging stations should be updated in a sustainable way according to the global technological developments in this area.

Evaluating the legal situation of electric vehicles and charging stations in Turkey, Atty. Fatih Özdemir pointed out that there is a consensus among countries on the reduction of fossil fuel use globally. He emphasized that carbon emissions should be reduced to zero in order to reach the 1,5°C global warming target specified in the Paris Climate Agreement. Noting that despite this, the increase in electric vehicles in our country could not reach the expected levels, he said, “The reasons for this are insufficient infrastructure and taxes on electric vehicles. Despite the dependence on fossil fuels, conventional vehicles are common in Turkey. However, we think that as drivers discover the advantages of electric vehicles, the tendency towards these vehicles will increase.”

“The number of public vehicle charging stations is 2 thousand 500”

From the Turkish Law Blog team, Atty. Fatih Özdemir noted that as electric vehicles become more widespread, the number of stations that provide charging for these vehicles also increases, and stated that there are more than 3 thousand charging stations in Turkey, and more than 2 of these stations are located as public charging stations. Expressing that the legislation that came into force a while ago in Turkey focuses on solving the problems regarding charging stations and regulating the market, Fatih Özdemir emphasized that the legal status of electric vehicles and charging stations is supported by current regulations and incentives.

“EV drivers can be victims of problems with charging stations”

Emphasizing that there are some problems with the use of public charging stations by electric vehicle drivers, Av. Fatih Özdemir said, “The problems related to charging EV vehicles are being discussed in the world now. Mainly due to power cuts or malfunctions, drivers may not be able to charge their vehicles. In addition, security problems may arise at public stations and there may be situations where drivers are victims. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on issues such as updating the regulations on charging stations, increasing incentives and expanding the charging infrastructure. It is important that the government, the private sector and local governments act in cooperation and adopt harmonious policies in order to make the growth in the electric vehicle sector sustainable in Turkey. Only in this way can we contribute to the reduction of global carbon emissions and a sustainable future.”

“License holders have very important responsibilities”

Hunting. Fatih Özdemir said, “The increase in the use of electric vehicles in Turkey makes the rights and responsibilities of charging network operators and licensees important. They are required to provide services that meet the needs of users by complying with standards, legislation and regulations regarding the planning, installation and operation of charging stations. They must also fulfill their responsibilities in the areas of data security, user education, collaboration and sustainability. They should also implement energy efficiency, safety and quality standards at these stations. Thus, they can have a share in the spread of electric vehicles and sustainability. We want to open the door to developments by frequently addressing these issues on our platform," he said.

New media model focused on the legal sector

From the Turkish Law Blog team, Atty. Fatih Özdemir concluded his words as follows: “We make global publications specific to the new media model on our publishing platform, Turkish Law Blog, which we established specifically for the law and labor market. We convey the current legal developments in business life and in the international arena. We publish legal updates, analysis, insights and news.
