Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the production and export numbers and market data for the January-December period of 2022. Accordingly, total automotive production in the 2022-month period of 12 increased by 6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1 million 352 thousand 648 units. Automobile production, on the other hand, increased by 4 percent to 810 thousand 889 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 1 million 402 thousand 189 units.
In the January-December period, commercial vehicle production increased by 10 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, while the production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 26 percent, the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 8 percent. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 70 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were 70 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 92 percent in the truck group, 41 percent in the bus-midibus group, and 66 percent in the tractor.
“Exports increased by 6 percent and reached 31,5 billion dollars”
In the January-December period, automotive exports increased by 4 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 970 thousand 124 units. In this period, automobile exports increased by 1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 7 percent. Tractor exports, on the other hand, increased by 2021 percent compared to 7 and amounted to 18 thousand 154 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, the total automotive industry exports ranked second in the sectoral export ranking with a share of 2022 percent in the January-December 12,2 period. According to Uludağ Exporters' Association (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the January-December period increased by 2021 percent compared to 6 and reached 31,5 billion dollars. On a Euro basis, it increased by 18 percent to 29,9 billion Euros. In this period, exports of the main industry increased by 4 percent in dollar terms, while exports of the supply industry increased by 9 percent.

In 2022, the total market increased by 7 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 827 thousand 147 units. In this period, the automobile market increased by 6 percent to 592 thousand 660 units. Looking at the commercial vehicle market, in the January-December period, compared to the same period of the previous year, the total commercial vehicle market grew by 11 percent, the heavy commercial vehicle market by 24 percent, and the light commercial vehicle market by 9 percent. In the January-December period of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, sales of imported light commercial vehicles increased by 1 percent, while domestic light commercial vehicles increased by 15 percent. In this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 39 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 59 percent.
