How to Become an Air Traffic Controller?
There are two different ways to become an air traffic controller. To become an air traffic controller, either to graduate from Anadolu University Faculty of Civil Aviation and Space Sciences, Air Traffic Control Department or to follow the postings of DHMI. Because DHMI also recruits air traffic controllers among 4-year university graduates, if it deems necessary. Let's examine these two ways in detail;
Way 1: Completing the air traffic control section. This department, which is within the body of Anadolu University in Eskişehir, admits students with a general aptitude test. In order to enter this department, you must first apply by getting a certain score from the university exam. Following this application, candidates are given a numerical weighted test, followed by a cognitive psychometric test that can measure professional competence, followed by an interview, and finally a simulator test.
The student selection system, which is carried out as we have stated, is called the multiple-elimination system. It is possible to graduate after a 1-year preparatory class and then a 4-year education period, i.e. a total of 5 years, in which many courses related to air traffic control management are taught. Of course, graduating from this department is not enough to become an air traffic controller. Then, it is necessary to get the minimum score published for the relevant year from the KPSS exam and to apply to the air traffic controller recruitment announcements opened by DHMI, which is the sole authorized institution for appointment. This is the first way to become an air traffic controller.
2nd Way: It applies to the advertisements being opened by DHMI. Because, in case of need, DHMI can also make purchases from individuals who are not graduates of the air traffic control department, that is, from those who have only completed a 4-year higher education institution. If you apply in this way, you will be subjected to a test to determine your proficiency. If you pass this exam, you will have a course that will last 14 months. If you successfully complete this course, you will have the opportunity to work at DHMI. In order for the candidates to apply for the course, they must have obtained the minimum KPSS score announced by DHMI, obtained a minimum of 70 from the KPPS exam and must not have reached the age of 27.
After the application, candidates are subjected to The First European Air Traffic Controller Selection Test (FEAST) and are then called for an interview. Successful candidates are called to the course with the title of trainee air traffic controller when they obtain the necessary medical board report in order to become an air traffic controller.
