Chinese technology giant Baidu, fully self-driving taxi for commercial purposes on public roads in the cities of Wuhan and Chongqing, will offer autonomous commercial “robotaxis” service in some parts of the two cities through the company-affiliated autonomous vehicle calling platform Apollo Go.
Baidu stated that backup monitoring and parallel driving will be implemented to ensure the safety of passengers.
Baidu had launched a pilot service with Apollo Go in cities as diverse as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.
China has introduced a number of policies in recent years to promote the development and commercialization of autonomous driving technology.
