Automotive Aftermarket Sector May Have More Difficult Remaining Period of the Year!

The upward trend in the automotive aftermarket, which has been effective since the first months of the year, was also reflected in the second quarter. In the second quarter, there was an increase in both domestic sales, employment and exports. With this positive picture in the sector, investment plans followed a similar course. According to the 2022nd Quarter 2 Sectoral Evaluation Survey of the Automotive After-Sales Products and Services Association (OSS); In the second quarter of the year, compared to the same period of 2021, there was an average increase of 50 percent in domestic sales. However, it turned out that the industry expects a 2021 percent increase in domestic sales in the third quarter compared to the same period of 46. At the beginning of the problems experienced in the automotive after-sales market, the "volatility in the exchange rates" took its place in the first place.

Ziya Özalp, Chairman of the OSS Association, said, “In line with our expectations at the beginning of the year; In the second quarter, the increase in sales figures, exports and employment continued. However, we have predictions that the second half of the year will be more difficult, the number of growth will stop, and the target will be to catch up with last year's numbers. In fact, for the first time, there are predictions that the second half of the year will be on an equal footing with the first half.”

The Automotive Aftermarket Products and Services Association (OSS) evaluated the second quarter of this year with the participation of its members, with a survey study specific to the automotive aftermarket. According to the OSS Association's 2022nd Quarter 2 Sectoral Evaluation Survey; The upward trend experienced in the sector in the first quarter of the year also showed its effect in the second quarter. According to the survey; In the second quarter of 2022, domestic sales increased by 20 percent on average compared to the first quarter. Again, in the second quarter of this year, there was an average of 2021 percent increase in domestic sales compared to the second quarter of 50. The primary problem is the fluctuation in exchange rates!

Problems in the sector constituted one of the most striking parts of the survey. While "the volatility in exchange rates" was the leading problem in the second quarter, "supply and cargo problems", which ranked first in the previous survey, were also among the observed problems. “Problems in cash flow” was also one of the primary problems of producer members. 92 percent of the participants stated that the priority problem was “exchange rate/exchange rate increase”, nearly 63 percent “supply problems”, 62,5 percent “cargo cost & delivery problems” and 39 percent “cash flow problems”. 33 percent said that “there are problems with customs”. Similar course in investment plans!

In the third quarter of this year, the overall rate of members planning to invest was 42 percent. While 60 percent of producer members planned to invest in the previous survey, this rate decreased to about 48 percent in the new survey. Again, in the previous survey, while 36 percent of distributor members were planning investments, this rate increased to 39 percent in this period.

The rise in exports continues!

Making evaluations about the survey, Ziya Özalp, Chairman of the OSS Association, said, “As the automotive after-sales market; in line with our expectations at the beginning of the year; In the second quarter, the increase in sales figures, exports and employment continued. After the meetings with our members and other sectoral stakeholders, we have predictions that the second half of the year will be more difficult, especially the number of growth will stop, and it will be a target to catch up with last year's numbers in this period. In fact, for the first time, there are predictions that the second half of the year will be on an equal footing with the first half," he said.

“We started getting serious complaints”

Referring to the problems in the sector, Özalp said, “Although there is an improvement in raw material-oriented supply problems, unfortunately, the products are not directed towards the market, especially in customs and TSE processes. zamIt poses a serious obstacle to the affordable price. We started to receive serious complaints that the services had difficulty in supplying the brands that they found suitable both in terms of quality and price.
