Groupama Insurance, which has been organizing safe driving trainings since 2020 under the umbrella of Groupama Driving Academy, announced the important points to be considered before setting off on the holiday.

Groupama Insurance and Groupama Hayat General Manager Philippe-Henri Burlisson emphasized the importance of motor insurance against risks, while mentioning the role of drivers in traffic, especially before and during the journey.

Groupama Insurance contributes to road safety by providing free-of-charge safe driving training to motor insurance policyholders as part of its social responsibility project to reduce traffic accidents. Within the scope of this responsibility, the brand made recommendations for driving during the holidays and summer holidays.

Groupama Insurance and Groupama Life General Manager Philippe-Henri Burlisson said, “As Groupama, we care about road and vehicle safety, and within this scope, we provide 'safe driving' training free of charge to Groupama insurance owners. At Groupama Safe Driving Academy, we trained approximately 1,5 people in 600 years. As a brand, we will continue our efforts to contribute to a safer traffic with a sense of responsibility.”

Referring to the traffic balance sheet of the Turkish Statistical Institute for 2021, Burlisson said, “The number of traffic accidents that occurred last year increased by more than 20 percent compared to the previous year and rose to 1 million 186 thousand. Nearly one million of these accidents were damaged and almost 188 of them were traffic accidents with death and injury. In other words, 188 people lost their lives or were injured in traffic. Safe driving training is important at this point. We also took responsibility to prevent accidents and established Groupama Driving Academy. We aim to contribute to reducing accidents for traffic safety. Thanks to conscious drivers and pedestrians, we can have safer traffic.”

Stating the precautions to be taken before and during the journey and the risks that may occur, Groupama Insurance listed its safe driving recommendations as follows:

“Before getting into the vehicle; Carefully check the condition of the tyres, the cleanliness of the headlights and the visibility of the windows.

Before starting the vehicle, make sure that there are no loose objects in the vehicle, that your seat and mirror settings are correct, that you wear your seat belt and that all your passengers are wearing their seat belts. Remember, seat belt use; It reduces the risk of serious injury by 45% in possible accidents.

Do not exceed speed limits to avoid accidents; Do not follow the vehicle in front closely. Never use a mobile phone while driving. Remember, talking on a cell phone increases the chance of being involved in an accident by 400%.

Focus on the road while driving. Concentration requires energy. Take a nap before traveling and take a 2-minute break every 15 hours during the journey to maintain your concentration.

Finally, do not neglect to be respectful and tolerant in traffic.”

88% of traffic accidents in Turkey are caused by driver errors. The main causes of driver errors that cause traffic accidents are; exceeding the speed limits, following the vehicle in front closely, not complying with the transition priorities at intersections, and making phone calls while driving. The precautions that can be taken against these errors are as follows;

“Get on the road early instead of breaking the speed limit. This will remove the stress that causes you to rush on the road.

Keep a distance of at least 2 seconds between you and the vehicle in front. In a possible danger, this distance will allow you to intervene.

At roundabouts, priority is given to the vehicle inside the intersection. Pay attention to the "Give way" sign.

Even if you make your cell phone call with a bluetooth headset, your brain will not be able to perceive what is going on around you. So when you turn on the ignition, turn off your phone.”

Do not neglect to take out your compulsory traffic insurance against the risks and negativities of traffic accidents, and to have motor insurance for your vehicle insurance.
