The MAN Lion's Intercity LE, which was just introduced to the market, won its first award. The iF International Forum Design jury awarded the vehicle with the iF Design Award in the “Product/Automobile/Vehicle” category, which industry manufacturers are eager to win. The bus, with a low entrance floor, won points with its special functionality combined with stylish design.

The iF Design Award 2022 has received an unprecedented number of entries. Jury members had to choose from 57 products and projects from 11 countries to present the prizes that the participants were eager to win. Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus Engineering, MAN Truck & Bus, said, “We are very pleased that our MAN Lion's Intercity LE succeeded in convincing the jury and won an iF Design Award. In particular, our unique combination that combines stylish design with functional design has found a perfect response.”

A total of 23 design experts from 70 countries gathered in Berlin to extensively test, review and evaluate the applications for three days. All five judges participated in the evaluations via digital connection. As a result of the evaluation; MAN Lion's Intercity LE won most of the points in the voting for the iF Design Awards, which all participants coveted, convincing the independent expert jury. Oktay said, “This is an extraordinary result that we owe to the great performance of our design team, the great collaboration between all units and the indomitable efforts of the entire team. Clear MAN language: The modern “Smart Edge” sets the design atmosphere

MAN launched the Lion's Intercity LE last fall. At the beginning of 2022, two versions for intercity use, Lion's Intercity LE 12 and Lion's Intercity LE 13, entered mass production. “With the new Lion's Intercity LE, our aim was to offer a bus model with maximum flexibility at an affordable price, and most of all, inspiring with its design, and it is clear that we have succeeded,” said Stephan Schönherr, Head of Design and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) Unit at MAN Truck & Bus. Schönherr continued: “The steady further development of our successful MAN 'Smart Edge' design has given the price-sensitive LE segment a completely new look. It allowed even city buses to have high quality and attractive design. The new MAN Lion's Intercity LE beautifully combines the best of two worlds: high quality and attractive design.”

Thanks to the modern “Smart Edge” design, you can clearly understand that the Lion's Intercity LE is a vehicle belonging to today's MAN family. Consistent execution of clear, dynamic lines, curves and edges leading to a harmonious holistic design concept throughout the entire vehicle; makes the vehicle eye-catching in urban and intercity traffic. The front and rear of the vehicle give the large bus mass a stylish, dynamic expressiveness and a warm, friendly look. The front mask of the vehicle is sporty, thin and horizontal, giving the bus a particularly powerful look, but the vehicle looks impressive not only from the front but also from the side. This effect is highlighted by the dynamic flow of the black nose and the powerful-looking wheel arches, among other features. In addition, the wide, solid rear pillars and the typical rear roof spoiler provide a sense of safety and efficiency.

The driver's cab of the new MAN Lion's Intercity LE is also in full compliance with the design concept. There are usually two driver's cabins for the vehicle; Classic version from Lion's Intercity and MAN's own fully 'VDV' German Transport Association compliant driver's cab from the new Lion's City generation. Here, the focus was specifically on ergonomics, comfort and safety. That's why ease of use has also been optimized by the arrangement of buttons and devices.

20th Design Award of MAN and NEOPLAN buses

City buses and long-haul buses of the MAN and NEOPLAN brands are now known for their excellent design. In addition to the iF Design Award, these buses also won the Red Dot Design Award, the German Design Award, the Automotive Brand Contest award and the Busworld Europe Design Label.

“We currently have a total of 20 awards that impressively show how much innovation and outstanding design work has been done for our buses,” said Schönherr. Apart from the new MAN Lion's Intercity LE that received this year's award, MAN Lion's Intercity in 2016, NEOPLAN Tourliner in 2017, MAN Lion's Coach in 2018, MAN Lion's City in 2019 and the fully electric MAN Lion's City E in 2020, iF Design Award It was the buses that won.
