In this context, total production in the January-March period decreased by 12,4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year to 302 thousand 730 units, while automobile production decreased by 21,5 percent to 166 thousand 363 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production amounted to 315 thousand 406 units. While the total production in the commercial vehicle group increased by 2022 percent in the January-March period of 2, this rate was 28 percent in heavy commercial vehicles, and there was a 0,3 percent decrease in light commercial vehicle production. In the same period, total automotive exports decreased by 14 percent on unit basis compared to the previous year and amounted to 225 thousand 550 units. Automobile exports decreased by 20 percent to 124 thousand 599 units. Looking at the automotive market, there was a 22,6 percent contraction in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, and the total market was 160 thousand 16 units.

In the January-March period, the total capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 63 percent. On the basis of vehicle group; capacity utilization was 62 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 91 percent in the truck group, 12 percent in the bus-midibus group and 63 percent in the tractor. Looking at the data on a monthly basis, the production of the automotive industry in March decreased by 13,7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and became 106 thousand 575 units, while automobile production decreased by 23,9 percent to 57 thousand 41 units in the same period.
Increase in heavy commercial production
In the January-March period of 2022, commercial vehicle production increased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. This rate was 28 percent in heavy commercial vehicles, and there was a 0,3 percent decrease in light commercial vehicle production. In the first quarter of this year, the heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by 1 percent, the truck market by 2 percent, and the bus market by 14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The midibus market, on the other hand, increased by 52 percent.
The total market was 160 thousand units
The Turkish automotive market contracted by 2022 percent in the first quarter of 23 compared to the same period of the previous year, and the market amounted to 160 thousand 16 units. In this period, the automobile market decreased by 25 percent and reached the level of 116 thousand 834 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 4 percent, the automobile market by 4 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 9 percent in the January-March period, while the light commercial vehicle market was at a parallel level. Considering the domestic vehicle shares in the domestic market; In the January-March period of 2022, the share of domestic vehicles in the automobile market was 36 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 60 percent. The total market in March alone, on the other hand, decreased by 32 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 68 thousand 245.
Tractor exports increased by 30 percent
In the first quarter of the year, total vehicle exports decreased by 14 percent on unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 225 thousand 550 units. In this period, automobile exports decreased by 20 percent to 124 thousand 599 units, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 4 percent. Tractor exports, on the other hand, increased by 2021 percent compared to 30 and amounted to 4 thousand 694 units.
Exports of 7,6 billion dollars in the first quarter
In the January-March period of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports decreased by 3 percent in dollar terms, and increased by 4 percent in euro terms compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, total automotive exports amounted to 7,6 billion dollars, while automobile exports decreased by 21 percent to 2,1 billion dollars. In Euro terms, automobile exports decreased by 16 percent and amounted to 1,9 billion Euros.
