The 43rd Ordinary General Assembly meeting of the Automotive Supply Manufacturers Association (TAYSAD), the umbrella organization of the Turkish automotive supply industry, was held. Making the opening speech of the meeting, TAYSAD Chairman of the Board Albert Saydam said, “We aim for Turkey to be among the top 2030 countries of the world in 10 with design, supply and technology. In order to achieve these goals, we aim to offer smart, environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions.” Touching on the issue of electrification, Saydam said, “We must accept that there will be geographies that cannot do this due to the phase difference of electrification. On the one hand, while producing in new technologies in our country, on the other hand, we should pursue the production opportunities of conventional vehicles that will take place in countries where electrification with phase difference will take place later. We need to make good use of this corridor,” he said.

Making the opening speech of the meeting, TAYSAD Chairman of the Board Albert Saydam said, “While vehicle production increased in the world in 2021, vehicle production decreased in Europe. It looks like Europe will close this gap in 2022 and grow to a greater extent than the world's. In 2023, there is an 8 percent growth parallel to the world. When we look at these reports of international institutions, we see that they are prepared on the basis of negative forecasts for the next period. To these negative tables; We would like to underline that it can be prevented by the joint work of the people in this hall and the legislator. Because in these estimates; It is foreseen that Turkey will regress from 13th to 15th place and its share in production will decrease. How can we overcome this? Our biggest weapon; strong domestic market. We can prevent regression by mobilizing the domestic market and increasing sales. If we go at a declining pace, this will mark a period of pause. For this, we have to take important steps, we have to take them.”
“We aim to achieve 50 percent”
Emphasizing that the share of the automotive supply industry in both total exports and automotive is increasing day by day, Saydam said, “While this rate was 2010 percent in the mid-34s, it became 41 percent last year. When we look at the first two months, it increased to 44 percent.
As the automotive supply industry, we aim to capture 50 percent. Of course, we want to catch this rate in a trend where vehicle exports are on the rise. We have a common purpose; The increase in automotive industry exports, the increase in Turkey's exports," he said.
5 million lost!
Referring to the Ukraine-Russia war, Saydam said, “We do not want to use the word 'opportunity' in a sentence containing the word 'war'. But it is clear that there is a corridor. Our aim is not opportunism. For world peace, for the progress of the world economy; We are ready as a country, as a sector and as an association. The Ukrainian war also taught us things we didn't know. We learned in the pandemic how important the chips used in vehicles are. Then we learned how important the raw materials we use are. Now we see how consumables affect the process. Any problem in the supply of gases, which are used only in chip materials, neon and krypton, which Ukraine and Russia realize 87 percent of the world, will adversely affect vehicle production. Our main priority is to take steps to prevent another loss of life and to establish an environment of peace," he said.

Saydam, who also made important statements on electrification, said, “We must accept that there will be geographies that cannot do this due to the phase difference of electrification. We need to make good use of this corridor. In order to take this step, we must be ready to make local production there, most probably not from Turkey," he said. “We have the competence to produce 80 percent of a vehicle. There was a risk that this would decrease to 2030 percent in 15, but the investments announced in this regard ensure that we have a positive outlook on 2030.”
In 2030, the target is the top 10!
Explaining the strategic plan of TAYSAD, Saydam said, “We aim for Turkey to be among the top 2030 countries of the world in 10 with design, supply and technology. Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, who attended the meeting via video conference, made evaluations about the developments in the sector. Varank said, “The world is going through a difficult process. In this period, the problems in the supply of raw materials and intermediate goods and the increasing oil prices have turned into a global problem. How much of a geopolitical problem zamWe don't know when it will spread. Therefore, it becomes important to be resistant to the duration of supply-side global shocks and the damages they may bring. Periods like these contain very important windows of opportunity to focus on R&D, design and visionary works.” Çayırova Mayor Bünyamin Çiftçi also stated that they hope that their work on the municipality-industry cooperation, which contributes to both employment and development, will continue in the coming period.

The meeting continued with TAYSAD Achievement Awards. Bosch won the first prize in the category of “members that export the most”, while Tırsan Trailer was awarded the second prize and Maxion İnci Wheel was awarded the third prize. In the category of “members with the highest increase in exports”, Motus Automotive won the first place, Hema Industry won the second place, and Erpar Automotive won the third place. Vestel Elektronik received the first prize in the “Patent” category, while Tırsan Trailer took the second place and Kordsa Teknik took the third place. Mutlu Battery, which participated the most in the trainings organized by TAYSAD, was deemed worthy of the first prize in this field; The second prize was given to Alpplas, and the third prize was given to Toksan Spare Parts. In addition, at the ceremony, certificates were presented to AL-KOR, Ege Bant, Ege Endüstri, Mutlu Akü and Teknorot Automotive, the first term participants of the social responsibility project “Equal Opportunity, Diversify Talent” initiated by TAYSAD.
