Rolls-Royce 3.0 Heralds a New Era in Digital Powertrain and Chassis

Tests on the Specter, Rolls-Royce's all-electric car, continue at full speed. At the Swedish site of Arjeplog – covered more than half a million kilometers at 40C, Specter has completed 400% of the global testing program that simulates over 25 years of use.

Rolls-Royce 3.0″ heralds a new era in digital powertrain and chassis engineering: an all-electric powertrain and the integration of Decentralized Intelligence into the brand's architecture. Specter has the distinction of being the most connected Rolls-Royce ever. Rolls-Royce chassis experts are currently calling it "Rolls-Royce in high definition".

Increased intelligence of Specter's electronic and electric powertrain architecture, centralized processing across 1.000+ functions
It provides a free and direct exchange of detailed information without It requires engineers to increase the cable length from about 2 kilometers in current Rolls-Royce products to 7 kilometers in Specter and write 25 times more algorithms. A custom control can be created for each set of functions, this system providing an unprecedented level of detail and refinement.

A highly sensual body style with generous proportions was chosen when creating a design for the electric car. The Rolls-Royce aluminum space frame is the spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupe, the car based on luxury architecture. As for the Specter's styling, the brand's designers considered the size and sensuality of the Phantom Coupe and other great coupes in Rolls-Royce's past. Not only did they create this feeling with the Specter's fastback silhouette and size, they also zamof the Phantom Coupe
They also carried forward an important design feature: they implemented the iconic split headlights, a design principle that Rolls-Royce has had for decades.

The flexibility of Rolls-Royce's proprietary architecture reserved for the exclusive use of the brand ensures that the exterior design carries the scale needed to create the presence of an authentic Rolls-Royce. This design is evident in the Specter's wheel size. It will be the first coupe to be equipped with 1926-inch wheels since 23. By placing the floor not above or below the sills, but in the middle of the sill structures, there is an extremely aerodynamic channel for the battery, resulting in an excellent under-floor profile. Likewise, this creates a low seating position and an enveloping cabin experience. By moving the bulkhead, the designers and engineers were able to go deep.

Battery location, enabled by the brand's architecture, unlocks another advantage commensurate with the Rolls-Royce experience. The structure and shape of the battery serve as additional sound insulation.

With the completion of the winter testing phase, Specter will continue its global testing program. The Electric Super Coupe will need to complete nearly two million kilometers for the brand's engineers to complete this commitment before the first customer deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2023.
