If You Can't Get Pregnant, This Could Be the Reason

Infertility is defined as the inability to have a child despite 1 year of regular and unprotected intercourse. When the causes of infertility are investigated, it is seen that the existence of causes related to women and men has almost the same rate, that is, it is understood that couples cannot have children due to reasons related to 50% women and 50% men.

“The most common factor among the causes of female-related infertility is problems occurring in the tubes,” said Obstetrics and Gynecology and IVF Specialist Op. Dr. Onur Meray continued as follows; In normal physiology, the oocyte, which is the reproductive cell of the woman, that is, the egg and the sperm, which is the reproductive cell of the man, meet each other, the place where the egg is fertilized and the baby begins to move into the uterus, where the baby will settle and grow, is the fallopian tubes, one of the most sensitive and important parts of the female reproductive system.

Fallopian tubes, also known as oviducts, exist as two tubes that connect both ovaries (ovaries) to the uterus. Due to the problems that occur in these tubes, the egg and sperm cannot meet, so fertilization does not occur and pregnancy does not occur.

Emphasizing that the two main problems that occur in the fallopian tubes are adhesion and fluid accumulation (hydrosalpinx), Op. Dr. Onur Meray “Hydrosalpinx constitutes 40% of female-related infertility and inability to become pregnant. It occurs as a result of the tubes being filled with enough fluid to lose their function. The main reason for the accumulation of fluid is that the ends of the fallopian tubes are blocked. The main factor in the obstruction of the oviducts is various microbes transmitted due to unprotected sexual intercourse and infections developing in parallel. In addition, it is possible to block the tubes due to previous surgeries and appendicitis. Patients with blocked tubes without hydrasalpinx can get pregnant with IVF treatment. However, if there is hydrosalpinx with obstruction, it should be treated before IVF treatment. Even if hydrosalpinx is in a single fallopian tube, it can cause both normal pregnancy and failure of IVF. In patients with hydrosalpinx, after embryo transfer in the in vitro fertilization process, the fluid in the tube flows into the uterus in the form of leakage, preventing the embryos from attaching, and it is also known that this fluid is toxic for the embryos. he stated.

Talking about the treatments needed to prevent the hydrosalpinx problem from preventing pregnancy, Op. Dr. Onur Meray continued his words as follows; “The fluid that accumulates in the clogged fallopian tubes flows in the opposite direction of what it should be, preventing the embryo from adhering, causing serious damage to the embryo due to the endotoxins and microorganisms in the fluid, preventing the embryo from being accepted by the internal structure of the uterus, and directly damaging the internal structure of the uterus (endometrium). In other words, hydrosalpinx disrupts the embryo chemically and physically. Because of these negativities, it is extremely important to intervene in patients with closed surgery, as normal pregnancy or IVF pregnancy cannot occur if there is a hydrosalpinx, or even if it does, it may be damaged or fall. The laparoscopic treatment of hydrosalpinx means the closure of the fallopian tubes or removal of the tubes before or during the IVF application. In the operated patients, since the presence of hydrosalpinx will cease, more chances are obtained to hold on. Lastly, the recovery process is fast since the procedures to be performed are performed with laparoscopic, that is, closed intervention. said.
