Medicana Sivas Hospital Pediatric Surgery Specialist Op.Dr.Mahmut Aluç said that although it is banned in our country, some complications may be encountered in the early or late period in circumcisions performed by non-physician personnel.

Op.Dr.Mahmut Aluç “Circumcision is one of the oldest surgical interventions that can be applied by human beings. Its history is thought to date back to 10 years. There are records of circumcision practiced in Hittites and Egypt. Today, it is widely practiced in countries with Muslim and Jewish majority and in the United States. As it is known, Article 1219 of Law No. 3 stipulates that circumcision can be performed by all physicians within the scope of general medicine practice. In this context, since it is foreseen that the circumcision procedure can only be performed by the physician, circumcision can only be performed by physicians as of 01/01/2015.” Said.

Circumcision Should Not Be Psychological Trauma

Medicana Sivas Hospital Pediatric Surgery Specialist Op.Dr.Mahmut Aluç said, “Although circumcision is banned in our country, some complications can be encountered in the early or late period in circumcisions performed by non-physician personnel. Since circumcision is practiced so frequently in our society, it is ignored that it is actually a surgical intervention. Before circumcision, the child must be informed about circumcision by the family and the doctor. Telling the child at the last moment and without being persuaded will actually be a serious psychological trauma. Perhaps the most appropriate method to avoid such a problem may be to perform circumcision in infancy, especially in the newborn period. In circumcisions performed on those who return later, it would be more appropriate to sedate the child, and if necessary, to knock him unconscious in the presence of the family. He stated the most important complications encountered in the early and late period.

  • bleeding and infection,
  • Partial or complete loss of the penis: It may occur as a result of incorrect circumcision and the use of inappropriate high-heat devices, which is a very serious complication and cannot be corrected. It may result in the complete loss of the child's sexual functions in the future.
  • Damage to the urinary canal: It occurs when the urinary canal is accidentally cut during circumcision or circumcision is performed in the congenital anomaly of the penis, which is known as hypospadias among the people. As a result, erection problems and then inability to have sexual intercourse can be observed due to the child's urination downwards and sometimes the curvature of the penis. For this reason, especially children with the sunnah of the prophet should be operated by experienced physicians. zamcircumcision should be done at the same time. If the upper parts of the urinary canal are damaged, urine leaks called fistulas may occur, which is a very difficult problem to repair.
  • Stenosis in the urinary canal after circumcision
  • Many infectious diseases can be contracted, including hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
  • It is possible to experience both aesthetic and erection problems as a result of too much or too little foreskin. Likewise, skin adhesions and bridges that may occur after circumcision may cause erection problems in the future.
  • In addition, depending on the energy sources used, burns on the penis, loss of sensation and future sexual problems may occur.
