Grant Conditions Removed for Export of Protective Masks and Overalls

The grant requirement to the State Supply Office for medical technical textile products, which broke records in exports with the effect of the pandemic in 2020, was abolished. The sector is of the opinion that medical textile exports are on the decline and this decision was taken late.

Aegean Exporters' Unions Coordinator Chairman and Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters' Association Chairman of the Board Jak Eskinazi said, “5 surgical mask grant for the export of 1 surgical masks, 10 protective overall for the export of 1 protective overalls or 3 20 units for the export of 2 protective overalls. There was a surgical mask grant requirement. Towards the end of the pandemic that has been going on for about XNUMX years, the removal of the existing grant conditions that weaken the competition in the medical product group is a decision taken too late for our industry.” said.

Eskinazi explained that while Turkey's overall medical textile exports were 247 million dollars in June last year, it was 20 million dollars this year and there was a 92 percent decrease.

“While our medical textile exports were 2021 million dollars in the first half of 566, this year it decreased by 42 percent to 329 million dollars. This chart clearly shows us that it is too late to make a decision and the markets are lost. Since the pandemic started, we have repeated our request for the removal of the grant requirement in every channel and made calls. The share of medical products with high global demand in the survival of the ready-to-wear and ready-to-wear textile sectors during the pandemic period was great. In 2020, Turkey's overall medical textile exports amounted to 2 billion dollars with an increase of 204 thousand 1,4 percent. Surgical dresses and masks constituted the main share in the increase in the export of medical technical textiles. If a reflex had been shown immediately, we could have turned the situation in our favor and contributed approximately 5 billion dollars to annual exports. In the end, our call was answered, albeit late.”

Jak Eskinazi, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who played a major role in the conclusion of the decision, and Minister of Commerce Dr. Mehmet Mus, Minister of Health Dr. He conveyed his thanks to Fahrettin Koca and President of Turkish Exporters Assembly İsmail Gülle.
