Scania, which is under the umbrella of Volkswagen group, has commercially launched its electric truck series. Plug-in hybrid trucks, which can be charged with cable, will initially focus on urban operations including retail distribution.


Scania took its first step towards electrification with plug-in hybrid trucks. Vehicles planned to be used especially in urban distribution and other services will continue to develop the range of electric vehicles for all applications, including long-haul and construction.

The fully electric Scania truck offered with L and P series cabins has a 310 kW electric motor equivalent to approximately 230 HP and a battery pack of 165–300 kWh. With nine batteries, it can offer a range of up to 250 km in a single charge. Scania's plug-in hybrid truck, which is also offered with L and P series cabins, provides the opportunity to drive up to 60 km in internal combustion engine mode and then in electric mode when necessary.

FILLED IN LESS THAN 1 HOUR

Batteries are suitably charged with 130 kW DC using the Combined Charging System (CCS) connection. The charging time is stated to be less than 55 minutes for five battery-powered options and less than 100 minutes for nine battery-powered options. Meanwhile, the batteries are constantly being charged with regenerative braking energy while on the move.

The 95 kW battery version of the plug-in hybrid vehicle is approximately 80 minutes from zero to 35 percent filling time with DC filling, and the battery power can be charged during loading and unloading, as well as filling with regenerative braking energy. The 115 kW electric motor placed between the engine and the gearbox is combined with the 280-360 horsepower 9-liter internal combustion engine. The truck can travel up to 60 km in electric-only mode, depending on total loaded weight, topography and type of superstructure.
