China Will Launch New Beidou Positioning Chip

China's official television channel CCTV announced that China will launch a next-generation positioning chip for the Beidou satellite and navigation system (BDS) by the end of 2020.

For the 22 nanometer positioning chip developed in China, mass production is expected to begin in the first half of 2021. The chip will be used for high-precision positioning in many areas on the earth such as autonomous / driverless vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

The positioning chip, defined as the "brain" of the navigation equipment, will be able to receive signals from other navigation systems of the world outside of the Beidou system; In this way, it will be able to provide more precise positioning and navigation services by enriching its data.

The new chip will be smaller in size, consume less energy and have a more powerful processing capacity than previous BDS positioning chips.

On the other hand, the chip will provide the technical foundations required for high-precision BDS positioning applications, especially in areas such as land surveying and mapping, UAV and autonomous vehicles. - Hibya
